xG Releases Publication on Using Cognitive Radios in

xG Technology has released a publication entitled "Cognitive Radio: Taking Public Safety Wireless Communications Beyond Cellular." It provides an overview of the challenges faced public safety wireless planners and the key requirements of an optimal public safety wireless system.

In order to increase the effectiveness of emergency response and ensure the safety of first responders, a wireless system should have the flexibility to provide capacity and coverage on demand. Interoperability and scalability are also required, particularly when multiple agencies come together in a disaster or other emergency response situations.

The dual constraints of limitations of traditional cellular systems and insufficient availability of wireless spectrum have opened the door to innovative solutions such as xG's xMax cognitive radio solution in public safety communications. xMax is an ideal system for extending the deployment of robust wireless communications in hard-hit disater areas. It is a fully expeditionary wireless platform that provides a level of resilience and continuity of operations that help safeguard mission-assured communications, regardless of circumstance.

xMax can operate in seamless tandem with existing cellular industry standards and hardware, in addition to to serving as a comprehensive wireless solution where mission-critical needs dictate.

These features were on display at the recent xMax demonstration conducted at the FCC, where xG showed how xMax could meet public safety and homeland security wireless communications goals.
